Fall is here—pumpkins on the porch, crisp air in the morning, and the perfect season to hunt for treasures (or clear out the clutter) at a good old-fashioned garage sale.
Here are some tips for buyers and sellers...
For Buyers:
-
Dress in Layers – Mornings can be chilly, but it warms up fast by midday. Wear comfortable layers so you can browse without freezing or overheating.
-
Bring Small Bills & Change – With a mixture of small and large denominations, you won’t miss out because you can dial in the deals.
-
Think Ahead for the Holidays – With shipping delays still affecting stores, garage sales are a great place to grab unique gifts, home decor, or extra cookware before the holiday rush.
For Sellers:
- Highlight Fall & Holiday Items – People are hunting for warm clothing, gardening tools for fall cleanup, and holiday decorations. Put these up front where buyers can see them.
- Start a Bit Later – Mornings can be frosty this time of year. Beginning your sale mid-morning (around 9–10 AM) helps draw more comfortable shoppers.
- Use Bright Signs with Clear Directions – Use bold lettering and arrows. Bright colored signs work best. Synchronize the colors of the signs for ease of navigation.
- Bundle & Bargain – Encourage buyers to grab more by offering “fill a bag” deals on clothing or bundling holiday items together. This helps you clear space before winter.
